🏐 Robins Netball Club – Our Story 🏐

Robins Netball Club was founded in 1980 and continues to thrive today, with a proud legacy of community spirit, teamwork, and passion for the game.

It all began with a friendly request: Bruton Primary School needed a team to practise against ahead of a tournament in Somerset. That one match sparked something special. We realised how much we loved playing and decided to form a team—first for fun, then to compete in the Frome Summer League. In those early days, we played in jeans and T-shirts, later upgrading to secondhand kit. Thanks to tireless fundraising and support from local businesses, we finally got our first official kit. Inspired by Manchester United, we chose black skirts and red polo shirts, and named ourselves The Robins—a nod to our red-breasted colours.

We played on various school courts until 1984, when town councillor Gordon Fry approached us with an exciting opportunity: our very own court. After a year of hard work—applying for grants, fundraising, and even digging in fence posts ourselves—we proudly opened our court in 1985.

Today, that original court has evolved into a modern Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), complete with floodlights, allowing Robins Netball Club and other local organisations to train and play all year round.
